Service Academy Graduates
SERVICE ACADEMY GRADUATES
Please find attached some AMAZING pictures of two ex – students: Paul and Mele Ake who are proud graduates of our Services Academy programme which was able to provide both of them with a foundation to join the Services.
Mele’s rank is: OWTR AKE. Rank: Ordinary. Trade: Writer (dealing in communications)
Paul’s rank is: OCK AKE. Rank: Ordinary. Trade: Chef
Staff Tatahi Williams was lucky enough to attend their graduation and I also saw them a few days later and they were elated with their new professions and their accomplishments to date. This is a testament to the work Tatahi puts in with these students and they could not speak highly enough of his unconditional support throughout their journey.
Needless to say we are looking forward to more success stories. Well done to the Ake whanau and Tatahi!
Health Science Academy Parent’s Evening
Health Science Academy’s (HSA) parents’ evening was planned to be held at school with guest speakers, Q & A sessions, and snacks. But due to the recent lockdown, the event was in danger of being cancelled so we decided to hold an online meeting with the families of HSA.
Our students were already familiar with Google Meet, an online video conferencing platform used during online classes. They became the guides and helpers to our Aiga who were unfamiliar with the online meeting, helping them interact with the evening speakers.
Overall, the evening was a success. We had informative sessions led by Mr. Choi (director of HSA) and Va Lutui (Representative from Manukau District Health Board). There were laughter, spot prizes, and parents had opportunities to meet with their classmates, families, teachers, and senior leadership team.
We want to thank all the staff, students, and families for attending. We look forward to continuing to walk alongside you for your children’s education.
MMR vaccination – Measles, Mumps and Rubella
MMR vaccination – Measles, Mumps and Rubella
Counties Manukau District Health board and the Government have recognised that there are a number of people that have not been vaccinated or partially vaccinated for measles.
Measles is a highly contagious disease. To stop future outbreaks, students are being offered a FREE vaccine at school to help protect them against Measles, Mumps and Rubella. This works by causing the body to make antibodies to fight these diseases.
We are hoping that with the help of the school health team, we will be able to vaccinate as many students as possible on 13 April 2021. We will send out a consent form and information to be completed ideally before the day of vaccination.
Any questions please don’t hesitate to contact the school nurses or your GP

Tangaroa College Health Science Academy Alumni
Talofa lava, my name is Jean Laumata Wilson and I am currently working a as a nurse at Middlemore Hospital. I graduated Tangaroa College in 2015 and was a part of the programme from year 11 through to year 13. I am also currently undertaking postgraudate studies at the University of Auckland to further my career options in terms of specialised nursing.
Growing up, I have always felt drawn towards the medical field. Studying nursing was a never a choice of career, but if anything, being a part of the HSA has constructed my love and passion for Nursing.
My biggest motivators have always been my parents. They have sacrificed so much to give me the chance to build my wings and grasp opportunities that I otherwise would not have. My high school teachers (Tangaroa college) especially in year 13 have played a huge part in my education. I owe it to them for bringing out the best in me and making it out the other end. Without the love and support from my high school teachers, I wouldn’t be doing what I am doing today. I personally think that nursing is the most rewarding career a person can hold. And this is one of the many reasons why I chose to be a nurse.
Being a part of the HSA program is not only mind opening, but it also provides you with different opportunities to discover new careers and explore you interests and passion in what you see yourself doing in the near future.
